3 PLACES FOR PASTA

Luxembourg has quite a large Italian population and subsequently, there are a lot of places that offer a top-drawer plate of pasta. Here are some that stuck in my mind…

LASAGNA AT CHIGGERI

Dino Totaro perfected the art of lasagna making, by helping his mother to prepare fresh pasta ‘since forever’. Speaking of his lasagna he says it ‘provides a sensation of unique lightness on the palate, due to a silky pasta and the absence of white sauce.’ They dare you to attempt to count the layers.

Chiggeri’s Lasgana

Unrelated to pasta, but further portraying the passion that Chiggeri pours into its plates, also on the menu is ‘Emily’s hotdog’. This caviar and gold smothered creation by chef J Ramos was inspired by the birth of his daughter, Emily. He describes this as the best day of his life, but when he left the maternity ward in the middle of the night, his only food option was a very bad hotdog at a petrol station. He says that ‘the contrast between joy and food was huge. And so I decided, in memory of that night, I would create the best hot dog in the world. To perfect it, I have put in all the love I fell for my daughter, and believe me, this love is immense!’.

Bacchus

This restaurant, named after the Greek God of wine, has been serving delicious Italian food next to the Grand Ducal Palace for over thirty years. It is a lovely family-run restaurant that makes you feel ‘a casa’. Upon entry they offer you a glass of crémant and a slice of pizza fresh from their oven. From Amatriciana to All’Arrabbiata to Ravioli, they offer a vast array of pastas, including fresh options made on the premises. The Spaghetti alla Russia is particular – it is made with vodka, cream and caviar.

Pasta Così at Basta Così

Basta Così has two restaurants in the city offering a wide array of exceptional pastas, whether it be orecchiette with lamb ragu, pappardelle with pistachio butter and prosciutto di Parma or farfalle with salmon and green asparagus, you won’t be disappointed.
