Syriously
A pharmacist from Raqqa, Syria with a penchant for cooking opened this successful pop-up restaurant. A lot of the dishes are a labour of love, taking many hours to cook, in order to achieve exceptionally tender meat. The Babagahnoj (eggplant with tahini) is amazing, and for dessert take the rice with milk and rose water.
Ricebox
Ricebox on Rue de Fort Bourbon is inconspicuous due to its unassuming exterior. It is when you pass at lunch time and you see that it is teeming with people, that you take a second look. Luxembourg’s first rice bar offers home-made Persian recipes, which feel like a hug of buttery goodness. My favourite option is the chicken with rose water, shredded and sweetened carrot, with currant rice. The catch is that it is only open from 11am to 3.30pm on weekdays.
Bazaar
Just like a thriving souk, Bazaar aims to be a place of meetings, exchanges and discovery. A place alive with different aromas and perfumes, a place to eat, drink, laugh, dance and live. This relatively new establishment on Place Guillaume offers a fusion of Mediterranean cuisine from Greece to Persia, to the Barbary Coast and beyond… Imagine octopus, lamb kefta, challah breads, a hummus bar… All finished off with a Baklava Old Fashioned, made with pistachio washed bourbon, orange blossom, honey syrup, walnut and angostura bitters. By night, Bzaar has established itself as one of the most popular bars in the city and it even has an underground club.
