3 PLACES TO HAVE A BEER

There are pubs dotted all around the city, often recognisable by the fact that their name ends with the word “Stuff” which is Luxembourgish for “pub”.

Here are a few places to have a casual drink. Additionally, you can try one of Luxembourg’s various domestic beer brands – Battin, Bofferding, Diekirch or the low-calorie Fox beer.

Café des Tramways

This pub in Limpertsberg is an institution, popular with locals and expats alike, every day of the week. Accompany your drinks with a board of their celebrated ‘Flammkuchen’ (a sort of pizza with a thinner base): the goats cheese and honey version is the most decadent and the most delicious. If you look up, you will see that a miniature train chugs along a track suspended from the ceiling all the night long.

The Tube

Please mind the gap, neon lighting reminds you as you enter the dark, forest green pub. The Tube, named after the London underground, has been a busy stop on the Luxembourg social circuit for years, especially amongst expats. After having recently been refurbished, it’s still a pub, with its cosy, friendly atmosphere, but with the façade of a chic bar. They offer unusual craft beers and creative cocktails.

Scott’s Pub

When you go down the elevator at Plateau St. Esprit and exit the tunnel, beckoning from across the river is Scott’s bar. This is the perfect place to spend cozy Sunday afternoons on its comfy sofas picking at a bowl of their signature truffle fries, or, in Summer, to enjoy the sun and a cold drink on the terrace. They offer upmarket pub food, sustainably sourced, with certain dishes cooked in their in-house Texas smoker.
